Ever since Alfred Wainwright published his first pictorial guide to the Lakeland fells more than fifty years ago these exquisitely illustrated guides have been treasured by lovers of walking in the Lake District. As he himself said toward the end of his life things change, even on the mountains, and it became necessary to bring the now famous Wainwright walks up to date. Chris Jesty (who had previously assisted Wainwright with some of his other books) did a marvellous job in producing a 2nd Revised Edition. This can be obtained either as individual volumes or as a boxed set.
Wainwright’s Walking Guides – 3rd Edition
A 3rd edition is now in course of production (two volumes so far – Eastern Fells and Far Eastern Fells). Now branded as “Wainwright’s Walking Guide” they are in weather-proof binding more suitable for taking our onto the fells than the previous conventional hardback volumes.
